This combination of love story and ghost tale, from the author of the “Angeline Gower” trilogy, explores what it’s like to grieve a loss from both sides and what it takes to recover and move on. Rasmus and Jay and Róisín and Nico are two young couples who are planning their lives when tragedy strikes. Now Rasmus and Róisín are left to pick up the pieces of their lives as widower and widow. But they’re not the only ones grieving. Somehow Jay and Nico find themselves lingering on as ghosts who are able to see the devastation in their partners’ lives and know they’re not able to help. Or are they? Can they work to bring Rasmus and Róisín together and find happiness again? If they do, what does it mean for their own existence?
VERDICT Though Young doesn’t stint on the heart-wrenching sadness inherent in the losses her characters face, she gives them enough time and space to discover that there is still room for love and hope (and humor) in their futures.
