The story of a German WWII veteran who fought at Normandy and on the Eastern Front, spent time at a POW camp in Alabama, and ended up working for a business in Cleveland owned by a Jewish family. This remarkable documentary is told through interviews with the protagonist (at the age of 96) and archival photos from German, British, and Russian sources. Ertel is very honest during the interviews and doesn’t try to hide the fact that he was once a part of the Nazi regime. He talks about being a pacifist at heart, quietly working to save lives. This feature is well produced and includes excellent quality audio and video, including re-enactments.
VERDICT A must-see for anyone with an interest in WWII or military history.
