She explains the origins and roots of cognitive bias, why it exists, and just how pervasive it can be. She does not focus on judging the biases but instead helps readers recognize the presence of cognitive bias, especially in themselves, and how such bias forms. Devers offers strategies for overcoming bias, such as slowing down or speeding up one’s thinking and reactions. Each chapter ends with a series of exercises designed to make readers think and reflect, which in turn leads to reinforcing the concepts in daily life. Thoroughly grounded in current research in the fields and principles of psychology and social sciences, the book also incorporates numerous quotes from the Bible and other Christian literature, and Devers often refers to her own Christian faith.
VERDICT A well-written and generally useful title for understanding and overcoming cognitive biases, for readers of Christian faith or who want to know more about Christian beliefs.
