Daisy, Sage, and Cassidy grew up together as part of a blended family. Daisy’s widowed father married Sage’s mother, and together they had Cassidy—then divorced when Cassidy was young. Now after decades of not communicating, the siblings reluctantly become part of one another’s lives again when Cassidy is injured in a freak accident. At the insistence of their father, Daisy lets Cassidy recuperate in her home. Since Sage and Cassidy were always the closest of the three, Sage ends up spending a lot of time at Daisy’s home as well. Even though Daisy’s home is huge, the three spend more time close together than they would have expected. The proximity unearths past hurts, but they end up supporting each other through Daisy’s separation from her husband (who is also Sage’s childhood sweetheart); Sage’s desire to reinvent herself after her third divorce; and Cassidy’s reluctance to marry the amazing man who loves her. Their newfound bond is challenged, however, when Sage falls back on some bad behavior that leaves the three questioning whether they have really grown enough to maintain their sisterly bond.
VERDICT This engaging character study by Mallery (The Vineyard at Painted Moon) is sure to please her many fans as well as readers of similar authors such as Nancy Thayer and Debbie Macomber.
