The Photo Thief

After the death of his young daughter, Detective Dan Brennan returns to work on an apparently open-and-shut case. A socialite’s sleeping pill–induced fall down a flight of stairs should be a simple solve, but the victim’s daughter, Cassandra, tells a different tale. Cassandra’s incomparable memory and investigative skills aren’t the only tools she used to reach the conclusion that her mother was murdered; she can also speak to the dead through their photographs. After facing confounding forensics and file tampering, initially skeptical Brennan realizes that he needs all the help he can get to solve the case in time to save his own life. Delozier (Type & Cross) expertly blends psychological suspense with supernatural mystery, while narrators Rachel L. Jacobs and Jeffrey Kafer provide an engrossing performance of the dual narrative. Jacobs portrays Cassandra with youthful innocence and intelligence, while Kafer is the perfectly gruff, grieving Brennan. Their expressive portrayals create a spine-tingling tension that is creepy and compelling.
