Isaac (Bethlehem Bible Coll.; From Land to Lands, from Eden to the Renewed Earth) provides a unique perspective on faith. As a Palestinian Christian, he has witnessed firsthand the frustrations of his dwindling religious-cultural group. As more and more Palestinians leave the Holy Land for better prospects elsewhere, Isaac asks his fellow Christians around the world to reconsider their theological and political views regarding Palestine. Too many Christians romanticize Israel in God’s plan for humanity, Isaac maintains. The notion that Israel will one day be brought to Christ needs serious revaluation, he continues, as it belittles the Jewish religion and harms Palestinian Christians. Global Christianity must rethink both its moral and financial support of an Israeli state that in many ways acts un-Christianly to its minority populations.
VERDICT The book is a plea for love and understanding among all those interested in peace in the Holy Land. Isaac’s deepest wish is that the land be shared by all and that all treat their neighbor, understood broadly, as precious and worthy of love.
