During the last few years when many people realized how burned-out they actually were, self-care surged. This book by Thomas, a certified personal trainer, yoga teacher, and health coach, could fit the bill for patrons looking for new strategies to take care of themselves. Many of the activities take fewer than 30 minutes and could be used to build new habits. Some of the more interesting activities include foam rolling, hot shower meditating, listening to binaural beats, engaging in laughter yoga, and tarot reading. The author frequently encourages readers to view websites for more information or to search for topics on YouTube, but items online are often inaccurate, and validity can be difficult for the general public to evaluate. Thus, a resource list with further reading suggestions or trusted web resources, especially for physical exercises like Tai Chi, would have been helpful.
VERDICT Fans of Meik Wiking’s The Little Book of Hygge or the library’s self-help section could be enticed to pick up this book.
