A Tolkien-type quest with an odd assortment of companions who are sent out from Charriis, the City of Legend (home to the Grand Library, a repository for all the stories from the beginning of time that set all things in motion), to discover the evil plans of the Fallen Lord to destroy the land. They are an assortment of all the good beings in their world: a storyteller king, a prince, a dwarf, an elf, and representatives from other races, since the story requires venturing across the land to get to the Fallen Lord’s lair. The party encounters hardships, many adventures, and great loss on its journey. They meet and defy evil at every turn, but they also face self-doubt and flaws that often threaten their fate. A story within a thousand stories. Will they be able to save their world or will they lose everything in the process?
VERDICT This is an engaging and enjoyable book with many unexpected twists and trials. The characterizations are wonderful and fit the storyline almost too well. Each character plays its part well.
