McKay (Lucky, writing as Marissa Stapley) delivers a feel-good festive rom-com sure to delight fans of Nancy Meyers’s Christmas movie The Holiday. The heartwarming novel follows two best friends, Holly and Ivy, who trade places to escape their disastrous lives. Jilted at the altar, Holly is too overwhelmed to go on her Hawaiian honeymoon alone. She convinces her best friend Ivy to swap vacations instead. Ivy will head to Hawai‘i, while Holly will ensconce herself in the isolated Hudson Valley cabin that Ivy booked for the holidays. Though neither woman had romance in mind, both of them find love over the course of their unexpected holidays. This cozy Christmas romance delivers all the feels with minimal angst and is charming in audio, narrated by Audie Award winner Brittany Pressley. Pressley voices both protagonists, offering slightly different voices so that listeners can easily keep track.
