South Florida homicide detective Harry Doyle is no-nonsense and has an uncanny way of connecting with his victims. Rumor has it that Doyle has this "sixth sense" because he was once himself dead. His fanatically religious mother murdered him and his younger brother, and he was saved against the odds. Now Doyle works for justice, for his brother who could not be revived, and for his current victims, even if they were criminals in life. This is a classic police procedural with interesting not overly kitschy characters. The original book was published in 2010, and this new audio edition in 2017, so thankfully mystery fans have another chance to get to know Harry Doyle. Narrator John McLain embodies Doyle while still doing justice to the other characters, in a natural and complementary way.
