The Captain: A Memoir

In this wonderful memoir, retired third baseman Wright, along with Mets beat writer and coauthor DiComo, shares the story of how Wright came to be one of the most beloved players in New York Mets history. Starting with his childhood in Virginia, the eldest of four boys, the athlete invites readers to follow his path to the Little League as a break from his strict family, and the realization of his appreciation for the discipline and structure of baseball, which was different from his home life. The personable narrative details Wright’s entire career and highlights some of his greatest achievements such as earning the Rawlings Gold Glove Award, joining the 30–30 club and the World Baseball Classic, and more. Sadly, the seven-time all-star’s career was derailed by injuries, something he did not take lightly. Thankfully, he was able to play his entire 14-year career with the New York Mets; a meaningful achievement for him.
