A woman wakes up in Paris and realizes that she has no idea who she is or why she’s lying outside, at night, in the snow. She does know that the ruggedly handsome man standing over her is yelling at her to run, and she can hear gunfire. So she runs. Eventually, the handsome yelling guy finds her, and they run some more. Because, apparently, she looks exactly like a notorious double-crossing spy whom people are trying to kill. Good thing she has the help of a sexy super spy—assuming she can trust him. This hilarious romantic comedy is heavier on espionage and thrilling plot than it is on romance, but the combination is unputdownable. The characters have instant chemistry, and their well-written dialogue is peppered with witty banter. Readers will be riveted through all of the twists and turns as the protagonists race across Europe with the bad guys hot on their heels.
VERDICT Those who grew up reading Carter’s “Gallagher Girls” teen series will tear through her adult romance debut and clamor for more.
