Esiri annotates each selection, choosing from sonnets, songs within plays, and the plays themselves. Passages are matched with care, with “Sonnet 29” (“Haply I think on thee…”) for Valentine’s Day, Jaques’s “Ages of Man” speech from As You Like It on Shakespeare’s birthday, and a speech from the witches from Macbeth chosen for Halloween.
VERDICT A diverting compendium, probably more suited to personal purchase, while enjoyable through library checkout as well.
