Attorney Mark Byler left the Amish community and his beloved grandfather to follow his career. When his grandfather summons him home, Mark finds little has changed except for Miriam Troyer, who has grown into a beautiful young woman. Mark, Miriam's longtime crush, whom she wistfully observes upon his return, is an outsider Englischer and therefore, off limits. Expecting him to leave after a quick visit, she is surprised when he stays on after he is asked to take a leave of absence from his law firm. Allowed the God-given gift of time, the two childhood friends finally have a chance to see each other for real.
VERDICT Fans of Linda Byler, Laura V. Hilton, and Barbara Lewis may want to pick up Cameron's (Home to Paradise) new series launch, but the theme of romance involving an Amish woman and English man is pretty well worn. [Gilead Publishing, which suspended operations last fall, is back in business, in partnership with Kregel Publications, which will market and distribute its books.
