Rise & Shine

The Earth caved in on itself. None of the survivors know exactly what happened, but eight billion people died 30 years before, dividing history between the Old Time and the New Time. Not long after the tragedy, when food and resources were scarce, friends Walker and Barton discovered that humanity’s fascination with conflict would distract them from their hunger. The pair devised a plan to refocus the population’s will to live—they divided survivors into two opposing states and simulated a never-ending war between them. For 30 years, the trauma of battle has fed the people of the states of Rise and Shine, as orchestrated by their leaders Walker and Barton. But now people are dying at an alarming rate. Humanity being what it is, dissenters begin experimenting with seeds and water traded on the black market, although growing food is a crime. Will humankind’s desperation for empowerment be the end of Rise and Shine, or a new beginning?
