Having been in love with Delilah since they were teens, her best friend Thomas, the Duke of Huntley, is devastated when he learns of her plans. Yet things with Branville aren’t going as Delilah had hoped, and with time running out to win his affection, she does the unthinkable and purchases a love potion. Unfortunately, she sprinkles it on the wrong man, and realizing what she’s done, she fears she’s made a terrible mistake.
VERDICT With a plot loosely based on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, this latest installment of the “Playful Brides” (e.g., The Unexpected Duchess) will be enjoyed by many Regency romance readers and fans of the series, especially with the inclusion of characters from the previous novels. Others, however, may grow frustrated with a conflict that feels contrived and the drawn-out miscommunication between our lovers.
