DEBUT Julie and Owen Porter are a successful couple living their best lives in the Berkshires. The only thing missing is a baby, which they eagerly plan for around their hectic professional lives. But when Julie attends a neighbor’s Christmas party one night sans Owen (who’s home sick with food poisoning), a violent act destroys their dreams. Waking up half-naked in her neighbor’s bathtub, wracked with pain, Julie cannot remember several hours’ worth of the party—but she knows someone raped her. But who? Loath to identify herself as a victim, she at first keeps the events from Owen. When she becomes pregnant from the attack, the truth comes out, and tough decisions ensue, which threaten Julie’s grasp on reality as older traumas merge with new ones to test the bonds of the Porter’s marriage. All Julie can focus on after the baby’s arrival is to find out the truth of that night and seek justice against her faceless assailant.
