On the cusp of Halloween, her bossy sister has roped small-town college librarian India into working a crafts fair on campus. When Tess, a fellow vendor, is bludgeoned to death in her booth after hours, India stumbles over her body. Derek, Tess's clingy undergrad son, begs India to find the killer. Demonstrating her research prowess, India digs into Tess's past and finds unexpected connections to an older, unsolved case. Danger escalates when another corpse shows up on India's watch. Luckily, police detective Rick Mains can't help but be intrigued by the smart gal who's got sleuthing in her reference skills set.
VERDICT Perhaps the formula is familiar, but this humorous cozy moves at a steady clip, throwing in a monkey wrench or two to put readers off-track. Agatha Award nominee Flower has the chops to make this series last. Try this one with Jess Lourey, Avery Aames, and Donna Andrews fans. [See Prepub Alert, 8/2/11.]
