Miranda in Retrograde

When she finds out that she’s been denied tenure, physics professor Miranda Reed and her orderly world are turned upside down. Presented with an unexpected one-year sabbatical, Miranda decides to dispense with her go-to scientific mindset and instead spend the next year letting her horoscope lead her life. At loose ends, she moves into the Manhattan townhouse of her favorite aunt, who has gone off on an adventure of her own. Once she’s at the townhouse, Miranda encounters reclusive artist Simon Archer, who is annoyed when his new neighbor invades the quiet rooftop where he spends the evenings drawing. The two neighbors begin a reluctant friendship that slowly grows into true affection and love. Accomplished narrator Jennifer Jill Araya offers an expressive performance, pulling listeners into the story with her lively portrayal of Miranda. Araya expertly conveys Miranda’s conflicting emotions as the young professor allows herself to explore life outside her comfort zone. Characters are easily distinguishable due to Araya’s skill in capturing the nuances of their personalities.
