Mend It, Wear It, Love It! Stitch Your Way to a Sustainable Wardrobe

This book is the answer to a stitcher’s prayer. The information is simple enough for beginners and can be a quick reference for advanced users. Illustrations throughout the text are in color and easy to read with terminology in plain English. The book is split into three sections: “Mend” includes sections on using a sewing machine and repairing a hem; “Wear” shows users different techniques such as removing sleeves or adding pockets; and “Love” includes laundering tips and and how to deal with stains, including hiding them with embroidery. In addition, there is helpful information such as the basics of a sewing kit, “Inspirations” (e.g., changing a button to create a different look), further resources, and a basic index. The authors also spend a few pages on the concept of “slow fashion,” or prolonging the life of the clothes we already have through the techniques presented in this book rather than purchasing new items.
