A 10th-anniversary collection of Jordan’s (Deep State) and Moore’s (All-New Ghost Rider) series, which utilizes established superhero plot arcs. Nerdy teenager Strode gains superpowers by reading a book called The Hercules Method. This quickly spirals, as he’s targeted to join an ancient murder cult, resulting in daring action to save the lives of his loved ones. The format is convenient for the reader as they only need a single item to enjoy the entire adventure. However, the story itself is not concerned with character development or closing plot holes. It entertains its audience through fast-paced, high-action, high-gore scenes. The volume is sturdy, and the exceptional quality of the pages lends itself well to giving the reader a vibrant, visual experience. The artwork and typography are strong, bold, and suited to this genre.
VERDICT May appeal to some readers, but this collected edition is is only recommended for libraries that don’t already have the series’ individual issues. Otherwise, librarians looking to bolster their adult graphic novels collections should seek out alternatives to this title.
