Swedish knitwear designer Clementz has created a collection of vibrant sweaters with prominent, colorful, all-over motifs inspired by natural elements, such as flowers and mountains. All of the sweaters incorporate color work and are knitted top down and in the round with raglan shaping. Most of the designs are not gender-specific, and all are written for seven different sizes suitable for teens and adults. Other than the yoke, they have minimal shaping, and the colorwork requires only two colors per row. Knitters with some experience should encounter a number of designs that they can manage. Those accustomed to U.S. patterns will find themselves doing a bit more math, both to calculate how to accommodate increases and decreases as well as to determine where to center the pattern charts on the sweaters; all of this is explained at the beginning of the book. Most of the designs call for worsted/Aran-weight yarn, but two have summer versions in DK-weight yarn. Backmatter includes a guide to general techniques and abbreviations as well as an index.
VERDICT Knitters will be inspired by this playful collection of reinterpreted traditional sweaters, charmingly modeled by three generations of the author’s family. For larger collections.
