I Wish I Read This Book Before Law School

These two titles offer fledgling medical and law students advice from those who have been there. Physician Chretien (Johns Hopkins Sch. of Medicine; editor, Mothers in Medicine: Career, Practice, and Life Lessons Learned) condenses valuable insights on organization, budgeting, self-care, relationships, and professional identity into lists, clear graphics, and punchy text. Some sections could apply to any graduate or young professional (scheduling; mentorship), while others are specific to medicine (clinical rotations; choosing a specialty). Using similarly attractive and organized graphics and text, Saada (Univ. of LaVerne), Leslie P. Culver (S.J. Quinney Coll. of Law, Univ. of Utah), and Robin Apodaca (career services, Chapman Univ. Sch. of Law) distill sage advice on legal research, the bar exam, internships, and more. Both guides include glossaries, templates, checklists, and lists for further reading.
VERDICT Supportive, current (the books tackle diversity and equity, microaggressions, and social media), and useful. Highly recommended for all libraries.
