Popular Australia-based YouTuber Reardon, creator and host of baking series How To Cook That, brings her creativity and excitement for cooking and to this cookbook, which is an extension of her talent as a pastry chef, food scientist, and dietician. The title includes recipes for bakers of all levels and is divided into six chapters, including one called “Show-Off Pastries,” which features the gorgeous show-stopper recipes Reardon is known for. In a chapter on cakes and cupcakes, there is a section on how the results of the recipes are affected by the ingredients—for example, the type of fat or the amount of sugar used. This section is a helpful starting point for attempting to recreate Reardon’s flavorful, beautiful cakes. As with her YouTube channel, the book features the author’s beautiful photography. Some of the recipes include speedy apple turnovers, warm chocolate melting cake, and banana cream pie. At the end of the book is a section on recommended baking equipment, including a stand mixer, which is key in making many of the cake recipes.
VERDICT A great cookbook that offers a variety of delicious treats. Recommended for intermediate to advanced bakers.
