Beatrice Nilsson is trudging through another year of law school at NYU—preparing for the bar, working as a teaching assistant, spending Friday nights doing laundry—when her law professor suddenly goes on medical leave, forcing Bea to work with Nathan Asher, the opposing attorney in her best friend’s divorce proceedings. Determined to hate him in support of her friend, Bea is shocked when Nathan arranges networking opportunities for her and then brings her to stay at his place when her apartment is condemned. They spend a romantic weekend together, which Bea thinks will get Nathan out of her system. The weekend comes and goes, and Bea is sure she’s too messy for love, comfort, and security, but Nathan is not easily forgotten.
VERDICT Harding makes her solo debut (after cowriting the “For the Love of Austen” series with Audrey Bellezza) with this romance that has a fantastic New York City setting. A perfect balm for the love-shy heart.
