When bakery owner Harper Brennan hires carpenter Sam Bravano to renovate her shop, she tries her best to resist the younger man’s charms. Sam is tenacious, however, and a series of grisly events soon have Harper reluctantly accepting his protection. When it appears that their age-gap romance is the source of the threats to Harper, she must decide if a relationship is worth the risk.
VERDICT While there is a happy ending for the couple, the implication throughout the book (from the heroine herself, two of her married friends, and many of her fellow townspeople) that 45-year-old Harper is far too old to date 33-year-old Sam and that he couldn’t possibly fall in love with someone that age, is likely to sit poorly with many readers.
