Along with every major technological innovation comes individuals who are convinced that this one is doing more harm than good. This video argues that our routine exposure to microwave radiation, with particular emphasis on cellular phones and wireless devices, may have long-term health risks. The program focuses on a few people who are electro-sensitive and a few who see a link between brain and breast cancers associated with excessive use of mobile phones. Several experts explain that these fears quite possibly have a basis in fact, and they refer to studies that show evidence of verifiable effects. Of course, this is not a scientific paper, which would have a list of citations, making it possible for viewers to assess the validity of these claims. To date, no scientific consensus has been reached, but the video makes the inevitable comparison to the generation-long cover-up of the dangers of tobacco products by that industry and implies that the same may be true of the producers of wireless devices.
VERDICT This program makes a persuasive case for its point of view and could stimulate a good deal of discussion.
