This book is for both novices and experienced pattern makers. Parascandolo, a surface pattern designer and illustrator, shares her experiences through 20 floral patterns designed to connect readers to nature and perhaps add moments of peace to their life. The patterns range from simple to intricate and include instructions for designing on Photoshop and Illustrator, which are useful but may be intimidating for those who prefer to draw their designs by hand. The patterns are broken down into two categories, repeating and implied, and focus on including additional elements, such as color theory and incorporating mood boards into styles. While this is an interesting look at the act of repetition in drawing as a form of meditation, the idea may be overwhelming to those who are unfamiliar. Nevertheless, Parascandolo intends for her techniques to be used by any skill level and provides guidance for hand drawing, for using digital means, and for patterns that could be used in either format.
