While field reporter Lee Barrett is tramping through fields with the photographer from WICH-TV, her Aunt Ibby is preparing for the group gathering to plan their 45th class reunion in Salem, MA. Lee's excited that she has breaking news about the police divers looking for a car in the local quarry, but Aunt Ibby doesn't want to discuss the story. It doesn't take long for Lee and her police detective boyfriend Pete to realize Aunt Ibby recognizes the car recovered from the quarry, and she and her fellow classmates knew the victim in the car. Stories have circulated for years as to what happened to the long-dead teenager. Now Lee will have to use her ability to scry (to see events in shiny objects) in order to prevent the tragedy foretold in a friend's tarot cards.
VERDICT Paranormal beliefs and practices are essential to this suspenseful mystery, which follows Bells, Spells, and Murder, and has a more serious tone than many cozy mysteries. Cleo Coyle's readers and fans of Juliet Blackwell's "Witchcraft" books might enjoy.
