Fatal Gambit

Hans Rekke, a former criminologist struggling with addiction and other mental health conditions, and Stockholm police officer Vargas are back in Lagercrantz’s (Dark Music) latest novel. When a current photo of a woman thought long dead surfaces, Rekke and Vargas are asked to investigate. They begin a quest to find the truth about what happened to the woman. As they progress into the mystery, they are exposed to nefarious players. Although Rekke and Vargas are no strangers to the seedy underbelly of Swedish society, their work is made increasingly more difficult as personal connections to players in the shadows are brought to light. AudioFile Golden Voice Simon Vance guides listeners through the story, delighting with his pleasing British lilt as he crafts unique voices for each character. Although the story starts slowly, it soon gains momentum, culminating in a satisfying, pulse-pounding ending.
