This work introduces a postapocalyptic world in which the Millennium Bug sets off a chain reaction that causes the Earth to become uninhabitable. Eighty-five years following the event, the human population now lives in isolated colonies while scientists continue trying to figure out the cause behind the environmental catastrophe. An expedition team discovers an anomaly in the ocean depths, but when the crew are overdue, they are presumed missing or dead without hope of rescue as the leader of colony B-34 is not willing to send more people to their deaths. In the midst of the chaos, Doctor Paul Bailey is forced into unwilling service by a rebel group who want to find answers about the missing research team. There are forces that don’t want secrets about the past to be uncovered and will go to any lengths to silence those that seek answers. What happened on that fateful December day in 2000?
VERDICT This title has beautiful artwork that is very similar to “Ultimate X-Men” and other superhero comics from the early 2000s. The plot of the book is fast paced and entertaining in a manner reminiscent of the plot in Emily St. John Mandel’s Station Eleven.
