A wrong number text seems like it will bring hairdresser Tressa Fay together with the perfect woman—except the text comes from five months in the past, and the texter, Meryl, has since disappeared. What follows is a mix of cozy found-family vibes, parallel-universe physics, and steamy romance as Tressa Fay and Meryl manage to meet in the past, text one another in the future, and figure out how to stay together, despite time separating them. A few subplots involving Tressa Fay’s family and friends only add more depth to the main storyline, which stays focused on Tressa Fay and Meryl’s burgeoning romance and the major physics problem facing them. Mare manages to accurately portray the fluid nature of time, as decisions that each character makes ripple backward and forward realistically, changing things as readers learn about them.
