Every stitcher needs a compendium of stitches—straight, looped, and knotted—that shows clearly how each is made and explains its variations. This one includes projects on which to practice after each section. Advanced techniques, such as couching, drawn thread, and open work are included, as are punch needle, smocking, sequins, and needlepoint. The chapter “Design Handbook” does not provide any advice on doing your own design but instead boasts a further collection of projects, including many very clever and beautiful ones.
VERDICT A nice set of projects, but a real chapter on designing patterns would elevate this book above the herd. Recommended for craft collections.
