Warden Aelis de Lenti has returned to the city of Lascenise and the Lyceum to clear her former mentor’s name. Warden Emeritus Bardun Jacques has been accused of murder by magic, and Aelis knows there is more to the story than what she is told. Initially confident in her search for answers, she soon realizes that dealing with thieves, assassins, and a group of malevolent wizards is more than she bargained for. Needing allies, Aelis meets up with a former lover and classmate, along with a veteran gnome, and uses the knowledge from her imprisoned mentor to unravel the secrets that lie deep in her college’s walls. Not only is Warden Bardun at stake, but so is much of the world Aelis knows, including the half-elf Maurenia, the woman she loves. Readers will enjoy the paths leading to the climax, as well as some of the surprises along the way.
