Marie Windsor (1919–2000), dubbed the “Queen of B movies” had a 50-year career in film and television. Her work included classic film noirs, such as Force of Evil, The Narrow Margin, The Sniper, and The Killing. She also shined in comedies (Freaky Friday), Westerns (Support Your Local Gunfighter), horror (Salem’s Lot), and sci-fi films (Cat-Women of the Moon). Noe (The Complete “Married with Children” Book) moves through Windsor’s performances with extreme detail at times. Each film and television appearance is described in-depth with lengthy summaries and references to IMDb reviews and comments. Although exhaustive in its representation of Windsor’s work, Noe’s choppy, and occasionally repetitive, writing sometimes makes it difficult to coherently follow. While thoroughly covering Windsor’s film and TV output, it only intermittently weaves in her personal life—marriages, the birth of her son, three facelifts, and breast cancer—but does not give it the space or depth it deserves.
VERDICT The book is stellar as a filmography, but, due to its heavy reliance on IMDb and other internet sources, fans of Windsor may find few new details about the star’s personal life.
