In Enoch’s (
Every Duke Has His Day) latest Regency romance, Lady Meg Pinwell is supposed to marry a total stranger, the Duke of Earnhurst, who is rumored to be a rogue and gambler, but she is determined to evaluate his acceptability before finding herself shackled to him. Accompanied by her Aunt Clara, Meg visits his estate, where Clara assumes the role of an earl’s daughter, while Meg acts as her companion to uncover the truth about the duke. James Clay, the new Duke of Earnhurst, has just returned to the neglected estate property after his estranged father’s death and wants no part in managing the estate or its needed renovations. He’s unprepared when Meg and Clara arrive and switches places with his butler to avoid dealing with any visitors. An accident forces the ladies to stay at the estate, and everyone finds themselves trapped in their assumed roles. Webs become tangled, and sparks soon start flying between the mismatched couples, all of whom are being untruthful about their identities.
VERDICT Enoch brings romance to delightful characters and offers an entertaining read with a comedic trading-places theme.
