A well-performed and engaging account of an uneasy alliance that turned the course of the war. Recommended for readers of political and military history.
Weaving together archival transcripts and an incredible array of secondary sources, this book satisfies on many levels and will engage fans of military history, as well as readers looking for fresh takes on World War II. As in his previous books, Milton’s writing here is accessible and holds readers’ attention from start to finish.
While this work is heavy on superlatives and light on analysis, overall it is an entertaining read that will keep readers turning the page. For medium to large World War II collections.
The narratives of everyday wartime survival by ordinary German families are what make this a distinctive book for those interested in history told through personal experiences. (Photos not seen.)
