Emmy and Peabody Award-winning Muslim filmmaker Khan (Banaz: A Love Story; Jihad: A Story of the Others) here presents a deeply personal examination of contemporary far-right movements in the United States. After an interview with the BBC, Khan received racist email and Twitter messages. As a result, she traveled to America hoping to interview members of neo-Nazi and White Nationalist groups. She attended the violent and ultimately fatal Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville in August 2017. She also interviewed nine participants of various racially motivated organizations to understand their rationale for such beliefs. Khan asks tough questions, and several of her subjects appear visibly uncomfortable with the discussion. Some of these men begin to see Khan in a different light, with several calling her friend.
VERDICT This powerful, moving film is a must-see for all audiences.
