This production offers an excellent history of the U.S. Marine Corps from its beginnings as sharpshooters on naval vessels in the American Revolution to the land, sea, and air warfare teams of today. The video concentrates heavily on enlisted and officer basic training and then explores such specialties as dog handling and cold-weather activities. Viewers are rewarded with insights into modern equipment, including the Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) amphibious assault vehicle and the V-22 tilt-rotor aircraft. The capability of these personnel to deploy worldwide is examined along with their rapid response to natural disasters. The narration by veteran and Academy Award winner Gene Hackman is a plus.
VERDICT Highly recommended for military history collections.
