Kiernan’s (The Ultimate Guide to Witchcraft: A Modern-Day Guide to Making Magick) third publication in fewer than 14 months is a testament to her expertise in the area of pagan celebrations and practices. This title follows the formula from her previous titles: good information supported by its historical and mythological basis, with lots of inspiring and beautifully photographed vignettes of magickal crafts scenes and spell making. In this title Kiernan focuses on eight ceremonies throughout the year that follow the seasons and celestial events. Included are astronomical explanations (uniquely including the Southern Hemisphere) for the dates along with the reasons and ways particular holidays were celebrated by various ancient cultures. The information, albeit very complete and gorgeously presented, is not new and can be found in many previous resources on witchcraft. However, the organization, thoroughness, excellent writing, and sheer physical beauty of this book is compelling.
VERDICT Kiernan has created the new go-to resource for readers seeking information on Wiccan, Druidical, and other pagan holidays.
