Undermined by budget cuts, the replacement of key opening-season creative talent, and declining viewership, The Outer Limits' (TOL) 1964–65 season was cut in half. While generally not up to the standards established by Season 1, the sophomore outing still managed to include two of the series' most-lauded episodes—"Soldier" and "Demon with a Glass Hand"—both scripted by veteran sf writer Harlan Ellison. As a nice bonus, a separate disc is devoted to alternate versions of two episodes and interviews with series expert David Schow, writer/producer Joseph Stefano, actors, casting directors, and others.
VERDICT This essential companion volume to the first season showcases an original network TV series—a moody sf/horror anthology—with a cult following sure to appreciate this high-def update over prior releases.
