A tough ex-CIA cowboy meets a wounded diplomat’s daughter on the run in this second installment in Leigh and Chadwick’s erotic thriller series. Back when Sallie Hamblen was known as Kyra, she shared an unforgettable, passionate encounter with undercover CIA agent Jacob Donovan while in Switzerland. Six years later, she’s changed her identity to escape the men who have been targeting her since her divorce. Hiding out in a small town, Sallie is shocked to discover Jacob working at a nearby ranch. He doesn’t appear to remember her, but they share a smoldering attraction. Their sexual exploits are off-the-charts hot, but Jacob’s take-charge domineering ways are subtly abusive, as he has difficulty understanding the word no.
VERDICT If an extremely controlling hero (think 50 Shades of Grey) is exciting, this book will hit the spot. Otherwise, readers may want to seek out other romantic thrillers with a more equal power balance between the main characters.
