Recovering from Your Car Accident: The Complete Guide to Reclaiming Your Life

Rowman & Littlefield. Oct. 2020. 248p. ISBN 9781538133972. $28. MED
Drawing from his 30 years of experience as a clinical and forensic psychologist, Zender presents a guide for recovering, both physically and emotionally, from a car accident, whether as a driver or a passenger. He also provides guidance for those caring for family or friends who have been injured in an accident. Zender begins by detailing “post-accident stressors, symptoms, conditions and treatment issues,” and shares stories from actual survivors. Specifically noted by the author, this work is not empirical evidence-based but rather experience-based, with additional resources provided throughout the text. A second goal of this book is to enlighten and engage health care providers and insurance companies as to the combination of physical, psychological, and emotional effects of a motor vehicle accident (MVA). Although the targeted population are victims of MVAs, the injuries and recommended treatments discussed here could be applied to victims of various trauma-related incidents.
VERDICT Zender’s experience, knowledge, compassion, and empathy are evident throughout this book. Owing to the complexity of the medical language, this would be most useful for academic or health library collections.
