No Offence: Series 2

2 discs. 337 min. Catherine Morshead & others, dist. by Acorn TV, acorn.tv. 2018. DVD UPC 054961267293. $49.99. SDH subtitles. F/TV
As the second season of this brash police procedural opens, DI Viv Deering is back on the job after a period of bereavement leave. She quickly finds herself in the midst of a vicious war between rival crime syndicates, even as control of one of the factions shifts between a fierce mother and her psychopathic son. While Deering (broadly played by Joanna Scanlan) now reports to a new boss, she retains her popular but unorthodox influence over the other officers of Manchester's fictional Friday Street stationhouse. As the crime war unfolds over seven full-length episodes, the team tackles additional cases involving an abortion clinic, a pedophile, female genital mutilation, human trafficking, and elder fraud. The popular BAFTA-nominated series was renewed for a third season.
VERDICT Fast-moving and entertaining, No Offence features an outstandingly strong female cast. Recommended for viewers who enjoy a particular style of British irreverence.
