It's hard to fit this series into a category. While there is occasionally a dead body and definitely some fraud and questionable practices in the buying and selling of antiques, there is also a certain spirit of adventure and a nice dose of humor in every episode to keep it all from getting too heavy. Lovejoy (played by Ian McShane with charm and style) is an antiques expert for whom "antiques are everything first, last, forever." He also suffers from the occasional "fiscal crisis," which means he's not above taking a few shortcuts to solidify a deal. Based on the mysteries of Jonathan Gash, these 1980s tales incorporate a colorful cast of recurring characters, including Lovejoy's confidante Lady Jane (Phyllis Logan) and his apprentice Eric (Chris Jury).
VERDICT Contains mild profanity. The age of this series doesn't diminish its entertainment value; for viewers who can't get enough of British dramas.
