Kicking It: All-New Tales of Murder, Magic, and Manolos

Roc: Penguin. Dec. 2013. 368p. ed. by . ISBN 9780451419002. pap. $16. FANTASY
From Rachel Caine's tale about potion witches Andy and Holly, who must stand up to a community suddenly turned against them ("Forked Tongues") to stories by urban fantasy authors Hunter, Christina Henry, and other genre talents, these nine selections revolve in some way around shoes, whether a pair of boots formerly worn by a killer to footwear intended to face Ariadne's killer spiders.
VERDICT Though the theme of this collection might seem trivial, these entries succeed in pleasing fans of urban fantasy.
