Moyer believes that white parents must talk to their kids about race in direct and explicit ways to prevent them from making racist assumptions. We become better parents by educating ourselves and the benefits will flow to our kids, Moyer argues. She gives practical, research-based suggestions for teaching selflessness, honesty, and healthy self-esteem; she also covers online behavior, bullying, sex, and pornography, in addition to suggestions for fostering a healthy climate to fight racism and sexism in the home.
VERDICT Moyer shows readers how to grow alongside their child and effect positive change. However, the book would benefit from a greater variety of perspectives.
