Lewis (Liar's Poker; The Big Short) reads his 2018 report about Donald Trump's Washington that originally appeared in the opinion section of Bloomberg.com. He relates his experiences in the White House press room and offers insightful views of reporters, the questions they ask, and the machinations of the press secretary. His artful, inquisitive descriptions also depict the interior of Trump's International Hotel (the old post office building) and how Trump decorators have minimized the building's artistic features with the use of huge flags and garish chandeliers. Lewis's narration of his experiences concludes with meeting Steve Bannon and together watching the president's State of the Union address, with Bannon commenting on the message and how Trump won the 2016 election. Listeners will be riveted as they hear Lewis's insider (albeit as an assignment) views and observations. Anti-Trump fans will cheer; pro-Trump supporters will be displeased and no doubt claim "fake news."
VERDICT A conversation starter and useful for government/current events teachers; also recommended for public libraries.—Patricia Ann Owens, formerly with Illinois Eastern Community Coll., Mt. Carmel
