Don’t Look Now

Montlake. Sept. 2021. 392p. ISBN 9781542021456. pap. $12.95. ROMANTIC SUSPENSE
Austin homicide detective Jordan Poe is investigating a case that hits eerily close to home. Women’s bodies are being found in abandoned homes; they had been wrapped in tight plastic to die from asphyxiation. Two years earlier, Jordan had found her sister Avery near death—she’d been drugged, then had plastic shoved down her throat. The emerging pattern looks to be the work of a serial killer, so the cases are turned over to Carter Spencer, a Texas Ranger. Avery (who’s recovering from addiction) and Jordan, both sisters stubborn and determined by nature, can’t help but insert themselves into Spencer’s investigation. Spencer must keep the Poes close to protect them from a killer who has a vendetta against Jordan.
VERDICT With plenty of possible suspects, Burton’s (Never Look Back) latest will appeal to readers who want light romance and heavy suspense.
