As audiobook month comes to a close, kick off July with a selection of titles ideal for the lazy days of summer.
  • The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand; read by Erin Bennett (Hachette Audio). Acclaimed for her blockbuster beach reads, Hilderbrand’s latest summer release spins off from her earlier titles to feature a dead bride and the quest to discover what happened. Narrator Bennett delivers an emotional and dramatic reading exquisitely matched to the novel’s tone.
  • Who Is Vera Kelly? by Rosalie Knecht; read by Elisabeth Rodgers (Blackstone Audio). This coming-of-age story, set within the frame of a spy thriller, centers on Vera, a young CIA operative working undercover in 1960s Buenos Aires. Rogers carries the reading with pitch-perfect inflection.
  • The Lost Vintage by Ann Mah; read by Saskia Maarleveld (HarperCollins). One of the pleasures of audiobooks is listening to the nuances of the characters’ voices, particularly their accents. Maarleveld’s performance takes on a wide cast featured in Mah’s lovingly detailed and braided tale, set in contemporary and past times, unfolding in the vineyards of France.
  • Circe by Madeline Miller; read by Perdita Weeks (Little, Brown). Miller's enchanting and powerful novel translates brilliantly to audio through Weeks's stunning performance. Bringing to life characters well known, such as Odysseus, and those scarcely heard of, such as the sun god Helios, Weeks’s rendering of Circe herself will mesmerize listeners.
  • A Place for Us by Fatima Farheen Mirza; read by Sunil Malhotra & Deepti Gupta (Random). One buzzy book of the moment is Mirza’s debut novel about an immigrant family navigating the laden path of parental expectations and self-forged identity. The skillful dual narration adroitly matches the dynamics of the story.
